How the gold market works in Vietnam
Vietnam prices gold in lượng (37.5 g) and chỉ (3.75 g), not grams or ounces, and two very different products share the market. SJC bars are the national standard bar; plain 9999 rings (nhẫn trơn) from brands such as DOJI, PNJ and Bảo Tín Minh Châu are the other way households save.
Gold-bar production has been tightly controlled by the State Bank of Vietnam since 2012, so the SJC bar can trade far above the world price — at times by more than 10–20% — while rings usually stay much closer to world spot converted into dong. That gap is the single most important number for a Vietnamese buyer, and it is why this page shows domestic boards next to world spot.
Every dealer posts a buy and a sell price; the spread between them, often several hundred thousand dong per lượng on bars, is your real cost of a round trip. Demand peaks before Lunar New Year and on God of Wealth Day, the 10th day of Tết.
